I did the daily nest check this morning and the martins continue to keep the sparrows out of the pods!!! After a couple of minutes 3, then 4, then 5 martins came and circled above us as we checked for nests. Pod #5 continues to have the 4 eggs with the projected hatch date of June 7th. No other pods had nests. In the big white house, I found a LARGE sparrow nest with an egg. We removed the nest and the egg.

  1. Hi Mrs. Cooper and Mrs. Cooper's class,

This is so exciting! I know Mrs. Craddock's class at Frostwood would be very interested. I'm going to send them a link to your blog.

Where are your bird houses? How do you get the pictures? I am very interested as i'm thinking about making some bird houses in my backyard. I do have lots of sparrows though, and I don't know how to keep them from nesting in them. If you have any suggestions, let me know! I have Blue Jays, Cardinals, Red Bellied and Bed Headed Woodpeckers, Mockingbirds, Sparrows, Doves and Grackles in my backyard everyday. However, I don't have any Purple Martins!
